Why:  To celebrate the coming of summer by enjoying “A sweet roll along a sweet trail!”  It will be a pleasant ride on the Lake Wobegon Trail and a chance to enjoy a sweet caramel roll!  We want to encourage everyone, especially families with their children, to get out and enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and do something fun together as a family.  Start a new tradition in your family and join us for this wonderful annual fun ride on the Lake Wobegon Trail!

2010 11th Anniversary Caramel Roll Ride Review

Thank you for joining us this year for our 10th anniversary of the Caramel Roll Ride.  We had just over 300 riders this year!

Our oldest rider this year was Ray Russel who is 81 years old this year and our youngest was Jonah Goulet who was 11 months at the time of the ride!  It just goes to show you’re never too old or too young to come join us at the Caramel Roll Ride!

We had 192 women and girls join us this year and 110 men and boys.  The ladies are showing the guys up … we need to see you fellas on the trail too… remember we have CARAMEL ROLLS!  And best of all they’re free!

Most of our riders chose to bike the northern route from Albany to Holdingford and quite a few went on to Bowlus and the Blanchard Dam on the Mississippi River and on to Highway 10.

There was a new restaurant next to the trail in Bowlus this year that supplied Caramel Rolls… and I heard they were pretty good… some thought they were the best on the trail.  I am going to have to check them out since I didn’t get to ride … so maybe I will see you at Jordie’s Trail Side Café in Bowlus.  Jordie Stay and her daughter Sonya have a great new stop on the trail for you to check out.

We had lots of people who chose to try the western and eastern rides too.  I know of one person who rode from her home south of Avon all the way to Highway 10 and back!  That was a total of about 68 miles round trip!  Now that’s some serious riding!

This was the first year in a long time that we started the ride in Albany.  We received a lot of favorable comments about the multiple options this provided for riders.  Based on the response we start the ride in Albany next year again.  The multiple ride options will allow us to grow the ride a little bigger without over loading the trail with people.

Next year’s ride will be the second Saturday in June again.  The date will be June 10, 2010. See you there!

I want to thank everyone who helped us this year to make the ride a success.  I especially want to thank the Sharon Haider from the Albany Jaycees and the Albany Paws Dance team and the parents who help check in riders and also provided the staff for the Albany aid station.

We had many individual volunteers helping us in the other communities along the trail as well.  The Holdingford Lions and the Lioness Club helped in Holdingford.  The St Joe Chamber of Commerce and the Women of Today in Avon helped with the aid stations in their communities.  I don’t want to name all the individuals who helped because I am sure I would miss someone but I want you to know the ride wouldn’t happen without the help of all the wonderful volunteers!

By the way if you would be interested in volunteering to help with future rides please contact us for more information.

I also want to thank the vendors where we purchased our supplies for our aid stations in each community and hopefully I haven’t missed anyone.
